Crystalline

Crystalline is the art of growing crystals on pottery during a controlled firing process using specially formulated, zinc-centric glazes. The crystals grow and form as they will and sometimes not at all.

Crystalline is a very challenging and labor intensive endeavor. Each pot has to have a catch-plate underneath it during firing because the glaze literally runs off the pot. The catch-plate is discarded and the bottom of each crystalline pot must be ground smooth.

Each crystalline piece is individually handcrafted by the potter, making each one distinctly one of a kind.
