Raku

A Japanese firing method in which a pot is taken from the kiln while it is red hot and put into a combustible material such as paper, wood shavings, or pine needles. The pot is hot enough to burn these materials, creating smoke which blackens the clay. The rapid cooling causes the glaze to crackle. Tessem Stoneware raku is water-porous, and is more decorative than functional.

Each raku piece is individually handcrafted by the potter, making each one distinctly one of a kind.

Keep out of direct sunlight; UV light may fade the black area of Tessem Stoneware raku pots over time.
